Oxygen builds new Autism Wales website for Welsh Local Government Association

. . . . . . . . . . . .

Earlier this year Oxygen was appointed by the Welsh Local Government Association to redevelop the National Autism Team (NAT) website.

The project was put out to tender in December 2019, with web development agency presentations scheduled in February and contracts signed in June 2020.

The NAT is hosted by the Welsh Local Government Association with Public Health Wales and funded by Welsh Government to improve the lives of autistic people across Wales. The team also supports local authorities and health boards to develop integrated autism services in each social care and health partnership region in Wales. The replacement website, which currently attracts 50,000 hits per month, is seen as a core mechanism to deliver a high quality information service to its users.

Oxygen had to evidence a proven track-record as a web development agency that delivers high quality websites, and hosting and maintaining them to Government standards. This includes full GDPR and all security requirements for managing data, backed by our ISO 27001 certification. Despite inevitable delays due to Covid-19, the website – Autism Wales – was launched in October 2020.

Steve Lodge, managing director at Oxygen, said: “We have worked hard to build a reputation for delivering sites for the public sector that not only function and engage users, but are robust and protected to the highest level.

“This is an important website for the public in Wales and required careful planning and a strong working relationship with the NAT during the lockdown and beyond. We believe this is where our strong processes forged by 11 years of ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certification came to the fore.”

The website is vast, with resources and apps for children, families, schools and other authorities, and we have ensured it has appropriate accessibility for all, including:

  • Adjusting text size
  • Background colour filters
  • Language options
  • Subtitles on films.

Oxygen has recently worked with Wolverhampton City Council, Devon County Council and Cornwall Council on comparable web projects, as well as providing other marketing communications services to local authorities and websites for education establishments.
