An event is a great marketing tool to effectively engage with your customers and stakeholders.
It is the perfect opportunity to develop business relationships, market products, raise business profile or celebrate an occasion.
A successful event can lead to great things – but an unsuccessful event could damage your business reputation.
The Oxygen team has pulled together a checklist to keep you on the right track when planning an event.
Fail to plan – plan to fail
We couldn’t agree more with this motto. An event takes a long time to organise and it is the little things that are forgotten about in the last minute rush. It is often these little things that take an event from being good – to great. Remember, everything always takes longer than you think, so start planning early.
When developing an event concept, be true to your brand. Scrutinise what the brand stands for and let an event draw attention to this. Don’t get carried away with something that doesn’t represent your company or your target audience.
Stick to the plan
Event development should be based on a set of clear objectives. Allow these goals to steer the event planning and then stick to that plan. Focus on what you are aiming to achieve and take heed regularly to ensure the plan is not slowly going off track without you noticing.
To assume is to presume
Assumption is the killer of all good plans. Be sure to ask lots of questions. Even if they seem simple or obvious to you, this may not be the case to a supplier, colleague or event guest. Assumption can lead to Champagne without flutes, tables without chairs (this actually happened to one of the team years ago – we won’t name names!), balloons without ribbon…. You get the gist.
An event could always be bigger or better. Setting a budget requires a frugal approach to event planning and encourages priority and focus on what the money should be spent on. Spending a few pounds here and there on the little niceties may seem ok, but before you know it, the budget is nearly gone, leaving the budget severely lacking for the other crucial event resources.
