Update your marketing materials in time for the June telecom changes in the law
Do you use 08 numbers for your customer helplines?
Most companies are aware by now that from June 2014 they’ll need to provide an 01,02 or 03 ‘basic rate’ alternative number for customers who have existing contracts with them. This is because the new ruling has decided that “Consumers should not be made to pay extra for attempting to rectify problems which are not their fault.”
The law will also make things fairer for mobile users. From June 2014 you must offer an alternative to your 0800 numbers because mobile users are currently charged higher than basic rate to use them. After June 2015 0800 numbers will be free for mobiles as well as landlines.
There are exceptions to the new law – so if you’re a B2B business, or offer banking, credit and insurance, foodstuffs or package holidays, the rules won’t apply to you.
The good news is that you can still use your 0845, 0844. 0870, 0843, 0871 and 0800 numbers for sales enquiries and pre-contract advice lines.
