Pantone Colour of the Year 2018

. . . . . . . . . . . .

It’s the start of a new year, and in among all of the 2018 predictions and trends articles was the news announcement of Pantone Colour of the Year 2018 by The Pantone Colour Institute.
This year’s ‘colour’ is Ultra Violet – a deep purple shade not too dissimilar from the Love Symbol #2 pantone colour that the Institute released last year in honour of the singer, Prince.
We’ve previously discussed the connotations of using the colour purple in design, and it seems that Ultra Violet is no exception to the typical rules. Females favour the colour purple, and make-up brand butter LONDON has teamed up with Pantone to release an entire range dedicated to this year’s Pantone Colour of the Year.

So what do we think of Ultra Violet? According to the Institute, the colour “…communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future”. It’s a good colour, and purple is used widely in the field of design so we’re sure to see it appearing in print and digital works throughout the year.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to stock up on my Ultra Violet nail varnish…
